BEIJING,June5(Xinhua)--ThemajorityofAsia-Pacificcountriesdon"twelcomeNATO"soutreachinAsiaandcertainlywillnotallowanyColdWarorhotwartohappenagaininAsia,ChineseForeignMinistryspokespersonWangWenbinsaidonMonday.

Wangmadetheremarksataregularpressbriefingwhenaskedtocommentonremarksofleadersofmanycountries,includingIndonesiaandSingapore,thattheydon"twanttoseea"newColdWar"orbeforcedtochoosesidesbetweenChinaandtheU.S.duringtherecentShangri-LaDialogue.

Wangsaidthoseremarksareaclearindicationthatmanycountriesinthisregionarealertedbyandopposedtocertaincountry"sattempttosetoffa"newColdWar"inAsiaandforceregionalcountriestochoosesides.Whatcountrieswantinthisregionistomaintainstrategicindependenceandkeeptheregionstableandprosperous.

Whatisparticularlyconcerningisthatcertaincountries,whileclaimingtochampionfreedomandopennessandaimtopreservepeaceandprosperityintheregion,havebeeninfactpatchingupvariousmilitaryblocsandextendingNATO"sinfluenceintotheAsia-Pacific,hesaid.

Theattitudeofthemajorityofcountriesintheregionisveryclear.Theyopposetheemergenceofmilitaryblocsintheregion,don"twelcomeNATO"soutreachinAsia,don"twantareplicaofblocconfrontationinAsia,andtheycertainlywillnotallowanyColdWarorhotwartohappenagaininAsia,Wangsaid.

"Asiaisthemosteconomicallydynamicandpromisingregionintheworld,itcanofferavaststageforwin-wincooperation,andshouldnotbedividedintoisolated,exclusiveblocs,"thespokespersonsaid,notingthatAsiancountrieswelcomecommoneffortstosucceedtogetheranddonotwelcomeschemesthatcouldbringtroubletothisregion.

WangsaidChinafirmlysupportsASEANcentralityandaninclusiveregionalcooperationarchitecture,andwouldliketoworkwithASEANcountriesandotherpartnersintheregiontoupholdthespiritofopenandwin-wincooperation,opposeanyrhetoricoractionthatincitesblocconfrontationinAsia,andtogethermakesurethatAsiawillremainapillarforpeace,apacesetterfordevelopmentandapromisinglandforcooperation.
