BEIJING,June7(Xinhua)--Theoceanishumanity"scommongood,notJapan"sprivatesewer,andtodumpthenuclear-contaminatedwaterintotheoceanis"extremelyselfishandirresponsible,"ChineseForeignMinistrySpokespersonWangWenbinsaidonWednesday.

AccordingtoJapanesemedia,areportrecentlyreleasedbyTokyoElectricPowerCompany(TEPCO)showsthattheradioactiveelementCs-137inblackrockfishcaughtintheharboroftheFukushimaDaiichiNuclearPowerPlantinMayfarexceededsafetylevels,reaching18,000Bq/kg,180timesthatofthestandardmaximumstipulatedinJapan"sfoodsafetylaw.

"TheJapanesegovernmenthasrepeatedlysoughttowhitewashitsdischargeofnuclear-contaminatedwaterfromtheFukushimaDaiichiNuclearPowerPlant,claimingthewatertobeharmlessandthedischargetobejustifiedandcallingittheonlyoption.Yetfactsproveotherwise,"Wangsaidatanewsbriefinginresponsetothereport.

"Manyintheinternationalcommunityhavebeenasking:Ifthenuclear-contaminatedwaterwereindeedassafeasJapansays,whydoesn"tJapandischargeitintoitsinlandlakes;whyhasJapaninsistedonbuildingthedischargetunnelandeagerlylaunchedit?"Wangsaid,addingthattheanswerfromJapan"sownexpertcommitteeisquitestraightforward:dischargingintotheseaisthecheapestoptionwithminimumriskofpollutingJapanitself.

"ItisextremelyselfishandirresponsibletoletthewholeworldbearthecostandsavemoneyforJapanitself,"hesaid.
